Sexual violence is an issue that is under reported and highly stigmatized in all society. According to online.rainn.com sexual violence is an act or attempt to obtain a sexual act by violence or coercion, it could also be an act to traffic a person or directed against a person’s sexuality.

Sexual violence has become  a ravaging crime that if I have my way I would say the punishment should be life imprisonment with starvation plus death by hanging I don’t think this is too much, sexual violence cuts across rape, incest, intimate partner sexual violence, drug facilitated sexual assault, assaults of men and boys, child sexual abuse( this is just the height, I have heard, read, seen stories of children been abused by their uncles, fathers, step-relatives, neighbors I think this is rampant in this part of the world like its becoming alarming to see kids go through severe pain just because of the beast in a man).

Sexual violence has led to so many trauma, fear, scary nightmares, disappointment, shame, many a time victims of these crimes lose their identity in the sense that 80 percent of their self esteem drops, they become timid, they lose interest in certain activities, they eventually become secretive because of the stigma it attracts, everything about them just suddenly go wired.

Sexual violence can lead to high risk of STD(sexually transmitted diseases), reproductive health problem, suicide I.e. the victim taking his/her life because of the shame and trauma it brings, murder i.e. the perpetrator may decide to kill his victim in the process just to cover up his mess which cannot be completely covered in advance countries with sophisticated technologies.

Relatively speaking, Studies have shown that women are majorly victims of sexual violence in all setting believe you me this issue has graduated from being a norm into a crime, because back in the days when intimate partners think they could do anything sexually forceful to their wives because they are married to them, it is no longer a right of a partner to sexually abuse their spouse. However, some of this perpetrators thinks or feels sexual violence is the only way they can unleash/vent their anger against their wives which is absolutely wrong and inhuman.

More so, this crime is instigated or perpetrated by people, not everybody but some can kinda of people who may be closely related, they could be the people you are familiar with like: Elders, teachers, medical professionals, intimate partners, parents, distant relatives, acquaintances, and even strangers.

According to online.rainn.com the causes of sexual violence have been categorized into three parts;

1.    Individual risk these include
·       Early exposure to sexual activities
·       Influence of hard drugs
·       Influence of hard drinks
·       Exposure to illicit sexual escapades(media)
·       Violent and aggressive behavior
2.    Relationship risk
·       Childhood sexual abuse
·       Family negligence of responsibilities
·       Association with sexually aggressive peers
·       Prior involvement in abusive relationship
·       Poor parent-child-relationship
3.    Community risk
·       Harmful traditions
·       Increase of unemployment
·       Low /no punishment for perpetrators
·       Increase of poverty
·       General tolerance in some communities

Researchers have shown that 8 out of 10 sexual violence are committed by someone who knows the victim. Sexual violence has become an inexhaustible topic by preachers, counselors and writers.
